Let me tell you what I'm doing and what I've come up with as it maybe of some help or may spark some ideas. The basic layout of the site is two frames: the left frame is narrow withnavigation buttons, and the right frame changes with search, browse, detail, shopping cart, etc., as well as some non PCS pages. The main problem is getting the carts to be in sync. Here's what I did (BTW, the site I'm writing about is under development andtherefore not finished or released.):The default page is a two frame page as I described above. However, theleft frame offers two navigation buttons (as well as text-based links) thatallow you to enter the site. One of the selections is a text only site, with which I am going to use a variable so that the pages can have a [HIDEIF [variable]=T] or something like that to hide graphics. (I haven'tgotten very far on that...once I get everything cranking with a Netscape3.0 compliant set up I'll backtrack.)The other selection takes you into the catalog. I've coded things like this...The button to get into the site is...
The page index.tmpl contains:
This way, right from the start, I have synchronized the cart throughoutall of the frames. And as long as I pass cart=[cart] in all of my links,I'm ok.One other thing that has helped me in this is to display the [cart] in allof the pages, and even in the title of the frameset containing page to letme see I'm in sync.I'm sure things get more complex if you have more frames, but if you createa cart in loading your frameset page, and link to all of your frames withthe ?cart=[cart] argument, and always pass that argument, you should be ok.Ed TrefzgerVice President and WebmasterYellow Dog Communications, Inc.http://www.yellowdog.com/phone 716.235.4685 fax 716.235.0509------------------------------------To leave this talk list send an email to macjordomo@smithmicro.comwith BODYunsubscribe WebDNA-Talk------------------------------------
