This is not a debatable issue, it is a simple fact that's just not going to go away. There are MANY reasons why this is true, but the most important of them are:1- WebCat data is stored in RAM, FileMaker's data is not. WebCat performs searches in RAM, but FileMaker searches for data on the disk. Since RAM-based searches are thousands of times faster than disk-based searches, WebCat will ALWAYS be faster than FileMaker ... but wait, there's more ...2- WebCat is multi-threaded, FileMaker is not. When several paople are performing searches at the same time, WebCat will deal with all of them at the same time, simultaneously, but FileMaker will not. FileMaker makes everyone 'wait in line', single file, for their individual turn at accessing the database. How would you like to be the one who is third or fourth in line? I can tell you, you won't like it at all. Either the CGI will time out and your search results won't be delivered, or WebSTAR will time out because it had to wait too long for the CGI, or YOU will 'time out' after waiting so long ... and you'll just skip the whole thing and go to a web site that uses WebCatalog instead ... :)Sincerely, Ken Grome WebDNA Solutions Associated Messages, from the most recent to the oldest:
