This is nota debatable issue, it is a simple fact that's just not going to go away. There are MANY reasons why this is true, but the most important of them are:1- WebCat data is stored in RAM, FileMaker's data is not. WebCat performssearches in RAM, but FileMaker searches for data on the disk. SinceRAM-based searches are thousands of times faster than disk-based searches,WebCat will ALWAYS be faster than FileMaker ... but wait, there's more ...2- WebCat is multi-threaded, FileMaker is not. When several paople areperforming searches at the same time, WebCat will deal with all of them atthe same time, simultaneously, but FileMaker will not. FileMaker makeseveryone 'wait in line', single file, for their individual turn ataccessing the database. How would you like to be the one who is third or fourth in line? I can tellyou, you won't like it at all. Either the CGI will time out and your searchresults won't be delivered, or WebSTAR will time out because it had to waittoo long for the CGI, or YOU will 'time out' after waiting so long ... andyou'll just skip the whole thing and go to a web site that uses WebCataloginstead ... :)Sincerely, Ken GromeWebDNA Solutions
