I unintentionally had virtual memory running and it did not seem to like that, though there tech support guy said it should not have caused the problem. I was running an old copy of system 8.0vf5, so this may have been the reason for this problem. This was of course a webten issue and not webcat. Here are the steps I took to get webten/webcat runnning under webtens IP stack. I chose webten's stack because it allowed for complete remote manipulation of the virtual websites.1. install webten. This can be on the same server as webstar. I don't think you can run them both however. 2. install webcat into webtens 'websites' folder. The read me explains most of this fairly well though I am not a readme kinda guy and so when I opened up the webten folder, their was a note that said you should move the webcatalogprefs.ref into the plugins folder and so I moved this and not the acutual plugin into the webten plugins folder. After reading the readme I also moved the webcat plugin as well. 3. Launch webten, I would make sure webstar is shutdown. You need to set up the webten admin so just follow their instructions. Once that is set up4. Follow the link to the webten admin section. Its easier if you have your dns already setup for you new domains. I use seperate IP's in most cases because I can afford them and it allows for greater browser compatibility.5. Add the virtual domains by name www.company1.com not IP to the virtual hosts table. Webten does the lookup for the IP. It will then create a new folder aptly named 'www.company1.com'. If you wish to administrate webcat from this website you will need to copy an alias of the 'webcatalog' folder to this folder. It will then be fully accessible by addressing your url as: http://www.company1.com/webcatalog/6. I then set the mime extensions for webten using webtens admin interface. I added .tpl, .dna, and .html. BTW they have a great product, but, these guys are in no way interface designers. I find their admin section to be extremely versatile and very kludgy.7. When I tried to access sub folders ie. 'http://www.company1.com/webcatalog/' without any file specified I got a file not found error, even though webten is suppose to choose either the default.html or the index.html by default. Since I don't use default.html as my default file I just eliminated it from webtens settings in 'server defaults'. Boom webten served the index.html file with no problem. 8. I then went to www1.company1.com/webcatalog/ and performed the necessary functions to get webcat running properly ie input sn# and change admin functions, setup mail server and mime types so that webcat handles all .html files.9. Your up and running. The only other conditions are password protection for users.db. I use seperate users database using a different checker file for each of my webcat websites(All of my sites will now be webcat sites, its just too easy), so this was a non issue for me. Others may find this a bit of a problem logically, I can't say for sure, I know I avoided it, because thats the way I do it on NT and therefore it was easier for me.10. Now if you are running this on the same server as you were webstar, just copy the contents of your company1 folder from the webstar public server folder to the appropriate www.company1.com folder. The initial setup barring any funky problems like I had with OS version compatibility, should only take you approximately 30mins an hour if your cautious.Restart your server for good measure and your done.Robert Minor ______________________________________ Cybermill Communications 8616 Joseph Ave. St. Louis, MO 63144 (314) 962-4024webmaster@cybermill.com http://www.cybermill.com ______________________________________ Always looking for the easy way!
