It keeps the original formatting.
numero = 21893
interpreted = N
texte = You gotta hate Excel. I've had the same weirdness It won't stop using quotes for text fields. You can try to set the cells to general, text or number format, and It keeps firing quotes into the mix.I have always had to open the file in BBEdit or Word and replace \t with \tThat means replace each quote-tab-quote sequence with just a tab.Excel also chokes on large files. If you're trying to modify a field by creating a new column and inserting a formula, Excel will arbitrarily cease to calculate or even respond to a 'force calculation' command.I have wasted untold hours coping with these 'quirks'. They exist on Excel for windows and the Mac but behave slightly differently.If you can use Access, Filemaker, Microsoft Works or ClarisWorks on either platform, you can write translation scripts to handle repetitive conversions. Database programs all tend to be more literal when handling characters in fields.You have been spoiled by the perfection WebCat exhibits in handling fields literally, so it's always a shock to see how sloppy the more famous applications actually are.Pat----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Tuesday, December 15, 1998 6:57 PM Subject: Exporting from Excel >I remember seeing some posts on this in the past but I can not find them in >the talk list. > >Anyway, I am having a terrible time exporting a tab separated text file >from excel 97.
