We just upgraded to WC 4 a couple days ago so I don't know much about that one yet.We have several MacOS servers, all running WebSTAR and WebCat. We have some database activity for Inventory and POS that utilizes TCP connect/sends. We found performance with WC under WS 4.2X --- how can I say this nicely --- it sucked! Stalled is not even a good description. It went into a do-nothing mode. Of course we found WC performance on WS 4X to be generally slow and any other activity at all would have a negative impact. We did the unthinkable and moved WC to a G4 server running WS 3X (running the acgi since WS 3 didn't support the WC plug-in) and it screams. We run 5 storefronts, all active and multiple TCP hits and nothing seems to bother it at all.I may get some huge disagreements on this but it is what it is! We didn't have time to sit around researching why WC with WS 4X was so bad, but I'll never upgrade that G4! Maybe someone else has some magical solution to WC 3X with WS 4X, I'd love to see it.Hope that helps.Marty Schmid wrote:> How much of a liability is the MacOS threadswitching in a heavy TCP > Connect/Send application? > > I'll be doing heavy amount of TCP Connects/Sends to a remote system and am > concerned about the effect these will have on a MacOS WebCat server.
