texte = To all new list members: Before posting questions to the list 1. Read the documentation 2. Read the documentation 3. Repeat steps one and two 4. Play with the Tea Room and other samples 5. If you still have a question, post it to this list 6. Don't expect everyone here to jump with smiling faces at your problem AND 7. Whatever you do, don't take Ken's responses personally! 8. Do not respond back with off-handed, anti-Ken remarks (this is _truly_ when the rhetoric and non-productive bantering begins.) 9. And most importantly, don't ask the list how to configure your email application's filtering capabilities. This basically negates any credibility you might have had as someone who could possibly have enough expertise to condemn the invaluable advise given by Mr. Grome.Remember, your audience here is a strange mixture of programmers, artists, office grunts, internet gurus, and everything in between. The history of the list shows that not only was Ken one of the first to post his advise here, but most of the members who are answering 99% of the questions today were at one time or another asking the same things of Ken.I had the unique opportunity of meeting Ken in person on a vacation to Hawaii last year so I have an advantage over some of you on how to judge what he posts on this list. It may come as a surprise to some of you, but Ken is actually a really nice guy. We went out for some 'local eats' at one of his favorite spots and talked about all the kooks on the email list. Just kidding. We talked about everything from the fiber cable lying on the Pacific Ocean floor that ties the Hawaiian islands to the rest of the internet, to college and surfing. With this insight, I have good advise on how to 'cope', if you will, with what might seem like short or terse advise from Ken on this list. Think of Ken as someone with lots of experience, lots of expertise, but not a lot of time to spend hand holding someone through things. Kind of like an older brother. You know how pointless it is to get in a fight with your older brother, so you don't even go there. You take what good kernel of advise you can and leave it at that. But you certainly don't slap him with insults after he took time out to answer a question for you. I know the last thing Ken wants is to be proclaimed the big brother of the list, so don't misunderstand what I'm trying to say. I'm not electing him to any position, just advising those who aren't familiar with his style on how to take full advantage of what you can learn from him without letting it turn your day upside down. The _last_ thing I would do if I wanted to learn about Webcatalog is filter out Ken's posts. That is sheer stupidity. Just don't take them personally if they seem to strike a nerve with you. And that's just good advise for any email list you're on. The wise person will let the water flow under the bridge and glean from it the wisdom they need. Getting personal with the ebb and flow of the stream will waste your time and not be beneficial to you or anyone else on the list. And with that, I will stop wasting the majority of the list's time with this diatribe and get back to work. I hope those of you who would prefer to bicker about Ken would do the same.Mike on 8/8/00 10:30 PM, Aaron Lynch at a.list@ninewire.com wrote:> Your Honor; on 8/8/00 8:32 PM, the Defendant, Kenneth Grome, confessed: > >>> Is there some way we can just exclude Ken's replies?
