texte = I haven't seemed to have much of a problem with ASP/PHP/CF comparisonseither. I simply don't talk about the programming language(s) unless askedby the client. If they do interrogate, I give them a very brief answer, minimize the importance, then keeping moving forward. My interest in taking this poll has come from my notation of some of theresponses on this mailing list. There are several developers here that seem to have spent an extended amountof time on testing and researching WebDNA.Now don't get me wrong, I think that is fabulous and it benefits me greatlyas well as many others, BUT... it also amazes me. Being an independentdeveloper, I simply do NOT have the time to go above and beyond exactly whatI need to get the job done. Time for testing and exploring is more thanlimited for me.In learning WebDNA, I have basically gained my experience as needed, whichI'm sure puts me a bit behind many of those who work for another businessalongside other developers. To be competitive, I have to be capable ofpulling projects off the board as quickly as companies who may have 2, 3, 4or more developers on staff. That alone, makes my time extremely valuable, yet very constrained. Not to mention, being independent... there are manyother aspects of your work that you must carry on your own shoulders:consultation, billing, education, technical support, taxes, etc. Again, allof those tasks taking away from any research and testing time allocation.I realize the importance of this research and I know that bottom line, itwill save me time and effort... but in the real world, it seems virtuallyimpossible to accomplish.Just my stance on the topic.-----Original Message-----From: WebCatalog Talk [mailto:WebDNA-Talk@talk.smithmicro.com]On Behalf OfKarl SchrollSent: Monday, August 05, 2002 1:51 PMTo: WebCatalog TalkSubject: Re: OT: Poll Results> (5) Owners of Development Business (more than 1 employee)^This is me.I'm not positive, but since we started developing with WebCatalog 1.6.1, Idon't think that we've EVER lost a job because the technology didn't stackup to ASP/Cold Fusion, etc. In fact most of our clients don't even ask orcare. And most of our projects come in with decent size budgets, but we'reoften substantially less than the competition. Seems for us the sweet spotin is larger organizations that don't really have an IT department, butsometimes an IT person who does double duty, is overworked, and is justlooking for an affordable way to ease the pain of website management, whichis where our WebCat content management system fits the bill nicely. Themore bells and whistles in the project, the more you're likely to run intothe IT people who want the safe ASP/CF solution. But we've gotten some ofthose too. Get testimonials from your higher-profile sites, give demos, andkeep the price reasonable and maybe don't target the higest end.--Regards,Karl SchrollDigital FrontierPO Box 1171, 1813 Mountain RoadStowe, VT 05672802-253-8612schroll@digitalfrontier.comwww.digitalfrontier.com**************************************************Take control of your web site with our easy-to-usecontent management systems.
