If he or she doesn't have one, their credit card will simply be charged by PayPal, not you. Your fee is as low as a normal merchant account, in the 2 or 3% range, plus 30 cents. They also pay you interest on your balance, something my bank doesn't do. You don't have to have a merchant account. Contrast that to iBill at what, 10 or 15%? Yeah, PayPal's great.I do have a merchant account, but I have been using PayPal in addition to Authnet for a couple of years now. I run a foot fetish website, and discretion is an important issue with many of my customers. With PayPal there's nothing on their credit card bill to tip off the wife. Also, some people just don't want to give their credit card info out all over the place, especially to adult sites. I have some repeat customers who switched from credit cards to PayPal, some customers who use PayPal to pay with an eCheck (I don't otherwise take eChecks), and some customers who use PayPal when their card keeps declining, or don't even have a card. Also, I'm developing another site with three other photographers who all take PayPal, but not credit cards (they do a lot of business on eBay). So I'll incorporate the PayPal stuff into their sections.I don't think I'd rely solely on PayPal, but it's a great addition. I use my ever growing PayPal account as a slush fund for buying killer high heels, stockings, vintage underwear and other wardrobe (on eBay) for my photo shoots. :) I think PayPal has proven themselves, and they're here to stay. Remember when credit cards started? They weren't meant to replace cash, it just happened. Maybe in time the same will happen with PayPal as a preferred payment medium on the internet. At first I just had instructions for sending the membership fee to my PayPal account. Then when PayPal instituted webmaster features, I jumped for joy. I added it as an alternate method right alongside my shopping cart system that ties into authnet. The coding required is nearly identical to authnet (you specify referring URL in your PayPal settings, and send the response page and a couple of other variables ahead; use the response page to put code for sending custom emails, writing to DBes etc.). If you've done authnet, you can set up PayPal with your eyes closed. If you haven't done authnet, PayPal is straightforward and well documented. PayPal will even cobble together the necessary code for you if you want.Probably more than you wanted to know; sorry.TerryAttitude is the only difference between an ordeal and an adventure. _____________________________________________________________________ (If I don't write back right away, I'm just buried in email.
