We currently have a targeted group of customers and partners actively participating, most of whom are active participants in this talk list. We have chosen to control the size of the beta community simply so it doesn't become too large of a support burden while we are working to complete the functionality in preparation for functional freeze and QA testing. We can't support a large open 'public' beta and get the product finished.I can add a small number of additional beta testers to the program if anyone is interested in investing the time to actively use the new features. If so, please contact me off-list and I will talk with you about the program. I'm particularly interested in people who are quite expert at WebDNA, have an interest in building something really compelling with the new features, and are clearly advocates of the product ... and have time. Also, please understand that we do require a signed non-disclosure to participate in the program ... simply to ensure that any public disclosure of detailed information about the new language extensions, new features, etc., is performed only by SMSI staff. We began the 5.0 development effort in earnest roughly nine months ago. Building up to that in prior months, we did solicit input on requirements from a variety of sources, including this talk list. Thus, 5.0 is an amalgam of features, some specifically driven by requests made by members of this community, some driven by market forces, some from ideas from the SMSI team. As with any software product, these things get thrown together, stirred vigorously, ranked and prioritized, then some of them get into 5.0, and some get listed for 5.1, 5.2, etc. The old MSF triangle: Resources, Features, Time-to-market. In general, there are some downsides to publishing detailed specifications publicly significantly in advance of a new product offering ... for one thing there are competitive considerations. Also, during any product development effort, feature content and specific behavior can change ... being too public with a lot of detail can lock in expectations that may change as a development effort progresses.I'd be happy to discuss joining the beta program with anyone that is highly motivated to get early exposure to the new product features and use them to promote new solutions that are now possible with WebDNA 5.0.Phil Bonesteele Director e-business Products & Services SmithMicro Software, Inc. 949-360-8550 Aliso Viejo office 714-745-6852 Mobile 949-389-1747 FAX E-mail: pbonesteele@smithmicro.com Text Pager: pbonesteele.pager@smithmicro.com-----Original Message----- From: Alex McCombie [mailto:alex@newworldmedia.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2003 1:52 PM To: WebDNA-Talk@talk.smithmicro.com Subject: Re: WebDNA 5.0 Enterprise EditionOn 1/7/03 4:36 PM, Palle Bo Nielsen wrote:> Could we get some specifications on the new product?
