texte = hi i posted this about 24 hours ago... everybody's quiet... are we the only people on this list that use WC on freeBSD? that'll be very sad..we've been using webcatalog for the last 5 years. and went through all of them - from mac OS 8.5 to FreeBSD (except windows of course) - and the FreeBSD is the winner (for now), hands down. last night i was trying to get the trial version of WebDNA 5.0 for FreeBSD and there is nowhere to find it on the smithmicro's site. it is a serious issue for us now because we are changing hosting facilities and need to close the deal and chose OSs. the only proprietary software we are using is WebDNA and it would be very unpleasant if we are forced to go back to redhat (which is becoming windows-y by the minute). today i called a sales rep at smithmicro and he said he's never heard of freebsZ OS and he learned from me that WebDNA 4 and 4.5 are available for that mysterious operating system. that is a reason for serious concern. i was brushed off with the phrase that a very big guy, representing that scary company in seattle, used a few years back when asked if there will be a windows media encoder for the mac OSX: there is not enough demand... if there is one person that benefits - there is more than enough demand....so please if somebody that reads this and has any information that suggests that WebDNA 5.0 and beyond will be available for the FreeBSD platform (or NOT) let me know somehow....thank you very much....ps: i do apologize for the rant but it is scary how good things/deeds get screwed up because there isn't enough demand...
