"Search information describing which records should be found and replaced. Can be any complex search criteria, works exactly like Search command or [Search] context."

And there have been several times on this list that other have suggested that if you can get it to work in a [search] then it will work in a [delete] and a [replace].

In any case, my needs of getting [numfound] from the inside of a [replace] does seem to work, as long as the [replace] in not nested inside another [search].  Although I had to throw the idea out anyway in favor of more consistant/stable code.

Please go back and read the docs again, they do NOT say this.  The docs are probably still incorrect as they are, but they have NEVER suggested that you can do *anything* in a replace context that you can do in a search context ...
