For a simple solution (been around for years, since 1997), check out: www.ZipBurst.com Supports US, Canada and Australia. Does actual distance-based searches -- there are other ways to do it, but few pack as many features and performance into a small package. (The web site needs to be updated -- so don't mind the details -- too busy working to update the site, sigh...) If you're not interested in more software for your server, you can also use our ZipServe Hosting services, running the search with us and linking to it via http://search.YOURDOMAIN.com or via a server-side include -- and we do all the set up and hosting. --> We can also run a demo for you with your data -- just give a call. The ZipBurst CGI Pro is a self-contained CGI, version 4 runs on Mac OS 9 (with WebSTAR, and others) or as a Carbonized app, native under Mac OS X -- WebSTAR or Apache with James Sentman's ACGI Dispatcher. Very fast, multi-threaded (search a little database many times per second and search a large database all at the same time) and handles just about any type of data base search in addition to searching by distance for locations -- you can set up multiple criteria to match one or more fields or all fields. Also includes relational database searching (one client uses it with WebDNA to find stores near you that also carry a certain product in their line). Includes lots of tags to create highly customized output. You can use the ZB-Indirect tag to actually perform a search and then pipe the results back through WebDNA -- enabling you to include WebDNA code in the result file. Clients use it to return XML, TAB delimited files with MIME type to pop directly into MS Excel, etc. Check out a few demos on our site or drop me a line. The Native Mac OS X version has been running many places for over a year (including X Serves at Apple). Not a secret, so check: http://consultants.apple.com/consultant/ Or click on Apple's Where to Buy link on their main site and you'll notice the CGI's name...
