I think your findings are a bit backwards from mine... If I forced the US date format on the EURO prefed machine, I was getting a negative number. I have to force the EURO format to get the correct results... which the only difference between forcing it and not was that forcing it added the "/" to the results where [date] just produced ddmmyyyy. I suppose the way to make your code more portable would be to have a check on what date pref is being used and then present your code depending on that...
