It doesn't take an economics degree to know that the app would be more accessible to the masses... and it may work to keep the app continually current with minimal required resources on SMSI's side. I don't know why SMSI would "give it away" either accept in the case that it is not proffitable for them to support it and they can't justify continued marketing. Open Sourcing may be a good way to keep it growing and alive, and even generate some buzz. Its not impossible that SMSI couldn't proffit from a system like this either. SMSI has a lot of experience in distribution. There are many successful ventures that package open source movements...
