Why WebDNA is actually less expensive than PHP
When considering a programming language, cost is one of the primary decision factors.
The development cost of any website is in the design and coding, and little can be done to change this. Most of this cost is comprised of hours and hours of coding labor, even with the help of tools like Ruby on Rails.
Now imagine that this work could be accomplished 3 times faster, which is the average gain by using WebDNA; would a $65 license fee be considered a "cost" or a "money saving" measure?
This is why it is extremely important to carefully consider the difference between upfront costs vs. running costs.
"I have 35 sites, each consisting of about 200 pages and 150 databases running the back office functions for a senior home care franchising business. It is essentially a temporary help agency, with over 1500 active senior clients and over 3000 employees. WebDNA handles all data, scheduling, billing and payroll. I can also monitor all franchise activity from a master console set of web pages. We're presently running over $2M/year through it and we're still growing.
I recently hired an ex-Oracle/Yahoo expert to help with some of the development. We agreed that doing the same work in MySQL/PHP would take a team of at least 5 people working at the same pace to duplicate the system." - Dean Smith
PHP is not free: it costs more money to build a site using PHP than using WebDNA... a lot more.
