Version 2.1 considerably deepens the WebDNA(tm) vocabulary used by WebCatalog to create professional commerce sites, while increasing its platform and server support. WebCatalog gives you the ability to create unlimited storefronts on a server, with as many shoppers as your machine can handle, without additional licensing or fees. WebCatalog, a complete turnkey package that is extremely cost effective, is used on leading sites world-wide including new sites established by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and the Stanford University Bookstore.WebDNA, the server-side tag language used by WebCatalog to dynamically create sophisticated Web pages, includes many new commerce oriented functions. In particular, the ability to encrypt data, access custom MIME headers, and manipulate browser cookies are all easily handled within the language. Invoice calculations have been generalized to allow complex tax and shipping formulas as well as support for international currencies. A new system to handle multiple character conversion sets supports multi-lingual sites that must cater to visitors in other countries. An updated version of WebCatalog's companion product, WebMerchant(tm), is also available for sites that require automated credit card processing, notification, and delivery.WebCatalog supports all the major Web servers on Windows 95 in addition to those on Windows NT. This gives Webmasters the ability to develop under 95 and deploy on NT. Likewise, since the WebDNA language is text-based and contained in standard HTML pages, you can develop sites on a Macintosh and move them to Windows without re-coding or re-compiling. In fact, the administration pages that ship with WebCatalog are identical for Windows and Macintosh. On the Macintosh, WebCatalog fully supports the new multi-homing capabilities of Starnine's WebSTAR 3.0 as well as those of Tenon's WebTen and Social Engineering's Quid Pro Quo.Version 2.1 also marks a new agreement with Starnine Technologies regarding sales of WebCatalog. Starnine will now act as a reseller of WebCatalog and WebMerchant for Macintosh, instead of the previous exclusive publishing arrangement. Starnine was able to solidify our position in the Macintosh marketplace, says Jay Van Vark, president of Pacific Coast, however, we found that the public perceived WebCatalog as a Mac-only product. We hope to reverse this perception and convince Windows users that WebCatalog is the most powerful and cost-effective tool for eCommerce on any platform.Since Pacific Coast Software has the greatest expertise in the area of electronic commerce development, we're now reselling their solutions to WebSTAR users, instead of our previous publishing arrangement, said Scott Steward, president of Starnine Technologies. Besides the benefits to our companies, this new arrangement will be good for our customers as they'll be able to obtain technical support and upgrades straight from the developers.A full demo package for WebCatalog and WebMerchant are available from Pacific Coast's Web site at http://www.smithmicro.com. WebCatalog 2.1 sells for $2499.00 and is a free upgrade to current 2.0 users. For more information contact Pacific Coast Software at sales@smithmicro.com or 619/675-1106. Pacific Coast Software, founded in 1989, provides complete eCommerce consulting and hosting services in addition to its product line of Web server tools.WebCatalog, WebMerchant, and WebDNA are trademarks of Pacific Coast Software.
