It helps us determine trends like How many SunOS people are hitting the site, or Is IE more popular that Netscape, or Do we have a lot of AOL users, because computer platform and lots of other goodies are stored in the reported [browsername]. The HTML level helps us tune for browsers that recognize frames and such.Another cool thing would be to track the language of the visitor by grabbing the Accept-Language MIME header to see what their preferred language is. There are a lot of goodies in the MIME headers that might be interesting to keep.By tracking the last hit by a particular browser, you can also see which browsers are falling off the edge and are no longer used.Probably the best one we did was for Graphics on Call, where we tracked every search request for keywords, and hilited the searches where *nothing* was found. This told us what people wanted to buy from us, yet we didn't stock. It helped fine-tune our list of products we kept in stock. You might also want to look at Typhoon's WebDNA Examples for Smart Banner Ads, because it tracks #views as well as #click-thrus of banner ads. It lets you set an expiration date for ads, and automatically emails the 'owner' of the ad a report each month that tells how well their ad is doing.Technical Support | ==== eCommerce and Beyond ==== Pacific Coast Software | WebCatalog, WebMerchant, 11770 Bernardo Plaza Court | SiteEdit Pro, PhotoMaster, San Diego, CA 92128 | Typhoon 619/675-1106 Fax: 619/675-0372 | http://www.smithmicro.com/ Associated Messages, from the most recent to the oldest:
