I run four domains in a directory tree off of the root, e.g. \DOMAINS\DOMAIN1, \DOMAINS\DOMAIN2, etc. Each DOMAIN has its own HTDOCS directory (as well as CGI-SHL, etc.) Within Website I have the root mapping for \DOMAIN1 pointing at \DOMAINS\DOMAIN1\HTDOCS. I also have a map for \DOMAIN1\SHR-CGI-SHL pointing at the common directory \WEBSITE\CGI-SHL, which is where WebCatalog is installed. I then have a directory for each web site under the WebCatalog directory. This way, one installation of WebCatalog can be efficiently shared between multiple sites, and I have the option of having both shared CGI executable directory (SHR-CGI-SHL) as well as a stand-alone CGI directory (CGI-SHL). If you never intend on having any site-specific CGI, you can simply map \DOMAIN\CGI-SHL to \WEBSITE\CGI-SHL directly. For example, my home page refers to: in order to start using the WebCatalog generated pages. There are many ways that this can be set up, but in general, all WebCatalog files belong in a subdirectory of the primary WebCatalog location, so that WebSite cannot serve up any WebCatalog file except through WebCatalog itself. All static web pages belong in a directory outside of the WebCatalog heirarchy. So your idea below is fine, except you need to leave WebCatalog where it is, and simply use a map for each domain to point at the WebCatalog installation (even if they all do not use it at first).-------------------- Original Message Follows --------------------Date: 2 Jun 1998 16:34:43 From: bob Subject: Re: Updating a database once per day - An exampleHey Ken, In previous conversations you stated, that you had setup webcat on website professional 1.1. Well I have a customer that is running just this software and I need to setup webcat to run multiple domains under just these conditions. What would be the appropriate higherarchal settings and where do install webcat so that all three domains can access this information. Can the homepage be setup so that it too can be processed? Is this just a matter of chooseing 'domain1folder\cgi-shl\' as the url prefix?C:-->Website----->domain1folder | | | |->htdocs(home of current homepage) | ->cgi-shl(is this webcat enabled) | |->domain2folder | |->domain3folder | |->htdocs(machine domain) | ->cgi-shl(webcat currently installed here)I have some ideas as to how this functions, but could use a leg up so I don't waste alot of time trying to figger it all out.Robert Minor ______________________________________ Cybermill Communications 8616 Joseph Ave. St. Louis, MO 63144 (314) 962-4024webmaster@cybermill.com http://www.cybermill.com ______________________________________ Always looking for the easy way!
