texte = In reference to the recent thread textarea input truncated at 255 chars---OK, this exercise illustrates an important principle of this list (not to pick on this particular thread; it happens with lots of other questions too): it is important to get all the information about a situation before diving off into rumor territory.I didn't jump into this thread earlier because I knew that the subject line of the message is not true: textarea tags do *not* truncate text at 255 characters.Tip #1: Make the subject line meaningful Do: be descriptive (actually, this subject line was pretty good; it just happened to be a red herring). Examples are: textarea gremlins getting into database sending variables with redirect Random 1-100? or could a zero slip in there? Order file header text truncated to 255 characters Don't: use generic or meaningless subject lines. Examples are: Question How Many (my all-time favorite: the blank subject line)Tip #2: Try to include specifics Do: post just enough WebDNA so that a complete stranger could duplicate the situation In the case of the truncation at 255 rumor, the only WebDNA was [comments], which is not one of the orderfile header fields, so in our tests we got lots of [comments] exceeding 255 characters, so couldn't duplicate it. Also post real URLs that show the problem accurately whenever possible. Don't: post your entire web site, irrelevant HTML, etc.Tip #3: You catch more flies with honey than vinegar Do: be kind to your fellow WebDNA-Talk members Don't: forget that you were a beginner once tooTip #4: If you're going to answer someone on the talk list, be accurate Do: actually test out both the question and the answer. If the question contains WebDNA, then try it out and see if the same problem occurs. Then try out your proposed solution and see if it works. Post that answer. Don't: just post something that you think *may* be the answer. A lot of time and messages are wasted by poking around, and can cause more confusion and rumors and false reports of bugs, and general uneasiness that is unwarranted. Thanks for making this one of the most active and helpful talk lists on the net!Technical Support ********************************** Smith Micro, Internet Solutions Div | Formerly, Pacific Coast Software 16855 West Bernardo Drive | ------------------------- Suite 380 | eCommerce (WebCatalog) San Diego, CA 92127 | Software & Site Development 858.675.1106 | http://www.smithmicro.com 858.675.0372 (fax) **********************************------------------------------------------------------------- Brought to you by CommuniGate Pro - The Buzz Word Compliant Messaging Server.
