At some point in time it would be nice to know what product I can offer for a given project for a given consulting client. (real product, I can not point a server consulting client to information about Typhoon Pro right now, and trying to tell them, Oh its just like Webcatalog, without this and this and oh I think this... just does not fly, get my meaning?)I am rapidly looking at other software products because of just complete lack of information (for some time now) on just what I stated above. I never had the question answered, which I am sure I asked (I may have missed the response so don't shoot me), but will there be a Typhoon Pro/Webcatalog Lite, whatever) for the unix bases that you created Webcatalog for... I have probably 5 clients that would love to use WebDNA solutions, but will not fork out $2500 for just a high speed database (they don't need ecommerce at all for these projects), but again trying to convince them to buy something they can not read about directly, or even see it for sale on the makers web site just scares the hell out of them... so we are working with another company/product that so far seems it will fit what we need, and they have information on their web site to back it up.Even though its a completely different topic not only would I love to thank Smith Micro for Webcatalog Creator (or whatever the lowcost static store front software is called), but even more so for a) not announcing it to this list of long time purchasers/supporters of Webcatalog, and b) if you are going to make a product, why did you not include the MacOS as a version... (just something that has been bugging me).We stopped using Webstar because we felt the product was not moving in the right direction, and focusing on what larger scale web sites need now, and they have instead focused on things like integrated email, search engine, etc, but...We were happy to see that our choice of platforms, Redhat Linux/Apache was one of the first to be supported by the current Webcatalog growth... but now it seems we must move on to other products because so far things have just become more complex/hidden since the Smith Micro deal then ever in the past.Sorry to drag this on, but just hoping maybe someone at Pacific-Coast/Smith Micro will realize offering low cost solutions (Webcatalog Creator), not marketing what people have been asking for (Typhoon Pro), not supplying us with updated information (I too was under the assumption that our Typhoon serial number was worthless to us, because we have moved beyond what Wcat 2.x code was providing us, not knowing we could be using an expanded set of Wcat 3x code with Typhoon), and in general being alittle more open about the future of ALL of these products. I know company mergers cause problems, and it takes time, but its been weeks/months since it happend. Please keep us all informed...Sincerely, -- Nevin Lyne admin@gippy.net - AOL IM: gippynetGippy's Internet Solutions http://www.gippy.net/ - (888) 419-1871 -- ------------------------------------------------------------- Brought to you by CommuniGate Pro - The Buzz Word Compliant Messaging Server.
