The thing is my users actually sit there and go through over 100 pages of results, then can't go any further. so I wonder what if any performance impact there would be by increasing the admin setting of max found. > -----Original Message----- > From: Kenneth Grome [SMTP:ken@simplewebstores.com] > Sent: Tuesday, February 15, 2000 10:44 > To: WebDNA-Talk@talk.smithmicro.com > Subject: Re: requiring form fields? > > >Is there really a performance hit when setting the max founditems to a > >higher value? > > Not if you use Max=(a small value) to limit the founditems displayed in > your web page. > > No matter what the MaxFound preference is set to, every search still has > to look at every record in the database in order to determine which items > to retrieve -- so it's the actual rendering of lots of HTML in the web > page that ends up taking a long time, not the search itself. > > > >I currently have mine set to 1000 and I still get some people that use > one > >of my serches complaining that it stops at 1000 when the search actually > >finds well over 2000. > > The lower you set the Max valaue in your search contexts, the faster your > pages will be returned. I was referring to the Max found setting in the admin section.I currently only return 9 'results' per page using shownext.
