[max] always equals 0 in search context

then shouldn't [command], [db], and [max] be available on the next page? And in fact they are, in the current version. Some working code which was transferred to the Unix Beta3 suddenly stopped showing the correct rec counts and I discovered that [max] was always returning 0. This may be related to the problem which Ken discovered in 3.0.4(7?) on the Mac. But here is the difference: I am not assigning to [max], just displaying it.
