texte = Well, I do not have an exact method, but try this...During periods of your heaviest server loads, check the amount of available'physical' memory on your server. Estimate the amount of RAM required for nnumber of 'extra' databases that might be loaded as a result of increasingthe Database cache size (above the default 100). Since there is no way topredict which of your databases might be loaded into the extra cache space,I would just add 'n' number of your larger db files. If the amount of'available' physical memory, is greater than or equal to your database sum *1.25 (allowing for cache and search overhead - a very rough guess), youshould be okay.I am sure we will refine this method as we get more feedback from WebDNAusers who increase the db cache size.----- Original Message -----From:

However, just because youset the cache size to 200 on your machine, doesn't mean that you have theresources to fit 200 of your databases in the cache. So it will take alittle bit of trial and error to determine the optimum setting for aparticular server. If 200 is causing database errors, then drop it down to185, 175, etc... Future versions of the engine will have the ability tohandle situations where the cache size setting is too high for availableresources. This was just a quick way to give those customers, who have lotsof available RAM, the ability to bump up the cache sizes.> -----Original Message-----> From: WebCatalog Talk> [mailto:WebDNA-Talk@talk.smithmicro.com]On Behalf> Of Nitai @ ComputerOil> Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2003 2:55 AM> To: WebCatalog Talk> Subject: Re: WebDNA 4.5.1 Now Available>>> On 22.1.2003 9:56 AM, Alain Russell> > wrote:>> > About 140 ..> > My top output below ..> >> > 1827 WebCatalog 1.8% 1:40.31 4 60 108 37.3M> 1.12M 38.1M 56.9M> > 1826 WebDNAMoni 0.0% 0:00.01 2 17 14 48K> 312K 260K 1.75M> >> > Alain> >> > What else runs on your server .. ?>> Only WebDNA and Post Office.>> During beta, I have set the db pref to 200 and then hit walls> after 200 db's> were open.
