While I understand the logic of using prefixes so people can use incoming formvariables then strip away the first couple of characters, to me this just complicates the task months after the fact when I look inside templates and have to dig back to see what the hell is coming into the page that formvariables is collecting. I rue the day I set up my main site with these prefixes because I blindly followed conventions I saw being used on the list. One of these days maybe I'll rewrite to make them easier.
