I also am fully aware of the "tons" of sites that will break because of the change (upon upgrade). However I also know that this issue will never go away until it *is* changed. I was not too happy when Apple decided to go to OSX (in many ways), though they did their best to keep OS9 alive during the transition. However, I *am* happy now that we are on the other side of the transition. They forced a lot of people to comply and they did. I think this change would find a similar reception but in the end it would be an improvement to the product. I think that if SMSI, put very clear warnings on their .x upgrade for 5(that included the date name change) that people could decide when to attack making their sites compatible to upgrade. This is only my opinion and I *know* there are ISP's out there who are throwing hate eye darts at this email but where do we create that line?... That line between updating problem parts of webDNA and delaying it so that we don't have to do the extra work?. Heck, I'd put a promotion on my site saying, "I'll update your orderfile DATE tag's for $2 per page (plus a one time access fee of course ;-)" (Or if I could write a utility, I'd charge less; or sell the utility itself ;-)).
