I didn't read the whole site, but if there are no hidden costs, then 2.2% + .30 + $20/month really isn't too bad; about the same as a normal merchant account by the time you factor in AVS costs and other nickel-and-dime charges. I didn't see anything about chargeback fees, but the intimation is that there is none. And there is no setup fee. So maybe PayPal is finally doing something right. If they would drop that monthly fee, or even give a choice of a higher percentage for no monthly, then we'd have something really useful. My site lets organizations, businesses and individuals collect money up front for events. Many organizations, such as social clubs, and most individuals, don't have merchant accounts, and therefore use PayPal to collect the $$. For them to maintain a PP gateway -- or any merchant gateway -- would cost them $240 a year or more. I have toyed with setting up a second Merchant account just for WhosComing for the sole purpose of collecting payments for qualified clients, but it's too soon for me to stick my neck out that way. With the PayPal gateway and free chargeback protection, I might have a look into it. If anyone has ever been down the road of collecting money for other people (legally, within the limits of your merchant account contract), I'd appreciate any caveats.
