texte = Go get the prototype library I discussed. This code is a bit more complex than it probably needs to be because I pulled it out of a site I built where the whole thing operates using AJAX. I'm not sure how well you know javascript and I'm slammed today so I don't have more time to explain this script, but essentially this will call using ajax a file called errorcheckpage.html in the root of your site. errorcheckpage.html should return a 1 (with no whitespace around it) if the serial number is bad, and return a 0, or nothing at all if the serial number is fine.
