texte = After recenty moving server equipment in-house from a colocation environment, we have had the chance to figure out what has been causing sporadic crashes of a G3 server that have plagued us for months. The culprit is WebCatalog. From time to time, WebCatalog will lock up the server running W*. A browser gets: The requested gateway application timed out before returning results. Sorry. The only thing you can do on the server is a force quit of WebCatalog (even though W* is in the foreground, WebCatalog is the one the finder thinks is in the foreground and force quits). When you force quit, WebCatalog immediately relaunches and the server continues serving until the next episode. We never caught this in our colocation environment because Powerkey would always sense a crash and force restart. We reported this many months ago and thought a beta of 2.1 corrected it. Now it seems it may have helped, but didn't fix it completely. We've looked in our WebCatatlog debug file and can't find any pattern; the lockup can come even with a very simple showpage. We're using the CGI verion 2.1.3, OS 8.1 (though it happened on OS8 too).
