Now maybe I should perfect my arguments for hooks into the Unix regexp engine and Perl directly from WebCat. Ow, ow, ow, stop hitting me ;)Seriously, though, this is the way that well written Unix programs go about it. Apache does give you the ability to decide what user to run the daemons under; perhaps that could be added to the WebCat preferences. Since I was running Caldera at the time, I had to fight with 99 as well. All Unix flavors are not interchangable; some use 99 for nobody (RedHat), some use 65332 (Caldera, SUSE, ???). It is preferred that you don't require the user to have their system set up in a specific way, but rather the program should do what you mean not what you say in a useful way.John Peacock ____________________Reply Separator____________________ Subject: Re: WebCat is different user Author: Date: 11/11/99 10:57 AM>Latest Linux beta: >Our admin told me that WebCat no longer runs as user 99 but with a >different number and this fact is not documented. So many people asked for this (or maybe one person asked so many times!) that we assumed it was a good thing. To handle more flavors of unix, we no longer look for 99 hard-coded, we look for user nobody, whatever that number happens to be. John Peacock explains it better.Grant Hulbert , Director of R & D ********************************** Smith Micro, Internet Solutions Div | Formerly, Pacific Coast Software 16855 West Bernardo Drive | ------------------------- Suite 380 | eCommerce (WebCatalog) San Diego, CA 92127 | Software & Site Development 858.675.1106 | http://www.smithmicro.com 858.675.0372 (fax) **********************************############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
