The strange thing though is that when I uploaded just some html and css = files and viewed them in browser, the server was forbidding access to = the CSS links in the page even though the permissions were correct. I = redid a chown and chmod 775 which fixed that, but I still cannot cd into = any directory beyond the root folder as the owner user or even as a root = user.
