texte = Hi folks...Just joined the list, so excuse the question if it's been dealt with, but I didn't find a clear answer on in the archives. There were some related messages by Kenneth, but I'm looking for clarification. In a Pacific Coast mailing I received tonight, there's a sample Q&A along the same lines...it dealt with how to offer a reduced price to visitors who entered by clicking on an ad banner from a specific site. The response was to pass along a parameter refferer (I'll try not to complain about spelling!) and, to quote from the response Now check for the variable on the index.tpl page.I ran into a similar situation while trying to develop some templates for a client...some of their databases contain a name field, and some an item field, both serving similar functions (and significance). So I wanted to make them some templates that basically said, in plain Englishif there's a [name] field, display [name] if there's an [item] field, display [item]To me, this is analogous to check for the variable... However, it would seem to require a WebDNA tag along the lines of [defined [name]], and nothing similar seems to exist. The consensus from the messages in the archives seemed to be if you aren't passing that parameter from every possible referring page, why are you checking for it?, and everyone agreed WebDNA'd pages shouldn't be looking for variables if there's a possibility that the variable wasn't passed to it.Am I missing something here? The index.tmpl page would work fine, offering the discount when the refferer variable was Macintouch, but what if someone hit the index.tmpl page directly? Where would the refferer variable be, or how would I deal with it being undefined?spud. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- a.h.s. boy ---------------------- manifesto overlord, dada typographics spud@nothingness.org ------- http://www.nothingness.org/ Now featuring Social Anarchism and the Situationist International archives J'suis l'enfant de l'etat, et je me bats contre ca Associated Messages, from the most recent to the oldest:
