texte = Ok, FireSite has lit a fire under our server speed :-)The only problem is the one I mentioned earlier having to do with the file alias method no longer working as a way of hiding the actual location of the file (which is the merchandise). As I wrote in the earlier message, now confimed:>I _think_ that every new alias >is treated as a new file (makes sense) but that it doesn't recognize that >it points to a file which has already been cached up to the trunk-line >server. IOW, it seems to cache the big real file anew every time an >alias is created. So is there any way that anyone can think of that would allow the hiding of the location that a link really points to (other than using aliases) ? The alternative that comes to mind would be to automatically rename the file on a pretty regular basis, but that would get kind of messy.I've also thought of using a REALM to guard the aliases from being replicated (which would keep each alias from creating yet another copy of the target file) but I think that means that the local copy of the file would be served, not the one cached at the trunk line. IOW, the alias resolution is done at the Finder level, not under the control of FireSite.I'll be asking the FireSite folks for help too, but kind of hope that one of them might be lurking here.I ecstatic but also stumped :-) -SvenPS This is all for Mac serving, don't know if there is an NT equivalent ?_____________________________________________________________________ Sven U.
