This is a question that definitely requires a reply directly from PCS, since this behavior may indicate a bug in WebCatalog. When I suggested making an alias of the drop folder, I was referring to making an alias of a folder, not a file. And since I've never tried to use [appendfile] on an alias before, maybe WebCat doesn't allow it, either because it's a bug in WebCat, or because the MacOS prevents PCS from making it work for some reason ... >1. It probably contains the Table of >Contents and probably information about Queued files or other status >markers. One thing I noticed in EudoraLight under the Special:Settings:Miscellaneous menu is a preference called Use old-style '.toc' files. And when I turn on balloon help on that item, it says When checked, tables of contents are not stored in the mailbox file's resource fork.Wow ... that's INTERESTING ... because that suggests a solution:If you check this preference, that *should* make Eudora store the .toc (table of contents) for each mailbox in a separate .toc file ... and that should make it possible for you to use [appendfile] to append new messages to the Out mailbox file using WebCatalog.Of course, at the same time, you will also have to use another [appendfile] on the Out.toc file -- to set the status of your new message to Queued so Eudora will send it out. But that shouldn't be too difficult after you've figured out the format of the .toc files ... :) >3. There are also a couple of other folders... > >/system folder/Eudora Folder/Spool Folder/ >/system folder/Eudora Folder/Cache Folder/ > >I don't know why a file dropped in either of these might work any better.Have you tested them to find out for sure?If the Spool Folder happens to be that 'drop folder' I was talking about earlier, then it's similar to the SIMS Submitted folder -- and that would mean that when a properly formatted email file is placed into that folder, it will be sent out by Eudora automatically. If that's the purpose of the Spool Folder, then all this work we're doing to figure out an alternative solution can be avoided, since it's really easy to have WebCatalog place its [sendmail] files into any folder on the hard drive.I have NOT investigated this as a possibility, so I don't know what the true purpose of the Spool Folder is ... although it sounds like it *might* be used for this purpose. On the other hand, Cache Folder certainly does not sound like it would be a 'drop folder' ...Please investigate this possibility first, because if it works, it's the easiest solution available ... :) >I sent off an email to Eudora's tech support. If they actually reply with a useful answer, they may be able to resolve this issue once and for all. >Ken, do you remember who is doing this?I thought Olin had done this, you may want to check with him. Or maybe he will comment here, I think he's still subscribed to the list ... :)Sincerely, Ken Grome 808-737-6499 WebDNA Solutions mailto:ken@webdna.net http://www.webdna.net Associated Messages, from the most recent to the oldest:
