Second, I can understand The Mooseman's frustration, and his position. It is the same as mine. I Understand these statements: ***** I came to WebCatalog, not as much a programmer but as an ISP who waslooking for a quick commerce solution to run on my server. I do not have the background in what actually drives the software. WEBCAT is a ready-made catalog storefront with minor customization, waiting to hit the web for your customers. AND Just drop in a copy of General Store into the customers web directory, make a few changes and your off and running. I got this software, read the manual, and threw it accross the room! I posted a message that compared it to the Microsoft Manual for Access. I called PCS and was told that a better manual would be released. (NOT!!!) I logged on to the talk list, to get advice. (Responses have been cryptic at BEST!)I posted these statements this very list: I need help with the command. I do not understand how it functions. An example would help. ; I ask, WHAT part of the above statements is NOT understood? My first project it took me 6 Months to finish, I was told it would take me 1! I was so frustrated that I just let it all go for months. Then I got another project, and it took me 3 weeks to get one step done that was a 10 min. process! I had to call TechSupport to get an answer, finally. Recently, yet another problem came up, I got an answer from another user, after posting the problem 3 times to this list!I have been looking for an Encryption solution. My clients want encrypted e-mail. And when I have mentioned this, I get a wide range of responses, like, use web merchant. Excuse my dullness, but what part of : My clients want encrypted e-mail. Was not understood? I am looking everywhere but WebCat 3 to solve this, why? It is simple, if PCS can not put out a Manual for their product that the AVERAGE person can use, why should I spend more money with you?I have not just asked the question, I have suggested a SIMPLE solution Many times. I guess Tech's do not like simple things. The more Complex and Cryptic the answer, the better, but here it goes again:1) Use the base manual you have, expand on it. 2) Collect snips of code from the users and from your staff. 3) Have the sender put it in a used in context format, so people have an EXAMPLE of how it is used. 4) Get the base going, convert it to Acrobat Reader. 5) Put it on your site to be downloadable. 6) Add more inputs to it as people submit more snips. 7) Keep it revised, and on line for your users.I know that with your software this may be a lot of work to do, at the start, but it can be done! I suggest that you work this through someone who has basic understanding of WebCat, and IS NOT a Tech! This needs to be a Plain Language Manual, the world is populated by people, Some of who happen to be Tech's.3 months ago I offered to do it for you, if you supplied the raw data, since there was no response, I guess you guys blew it off.WebCat is a great product, it needs a Plain Language Manual, with EXAMPLES. If this talk list is supposed to be here to help people who use WC, and help to improve WC, I would think that the users would donate what they have come up with to assist others, and people like Susie.Even if you have to pay someone to do this, and for the sake of your Product, do Not use a Tech Manual Writer, it will pay off in the end with your clients and You!
