In a recent project, where we collected Vote data live on election night for the State of WA, we were besieged with an extreme period of activity for about 4 hours (8-12PM election eve). Prior to that we handled very consistent large loads without any problem pushing a Voters Guide, and doing testing on the elections reporting system concurrently. During the peak period we had frequent and unexplainable WebStar crashes. (using Plugin version)These went away when demand fell back to a comfortable level of 40-50 simultaneous connections at a hit rate of 2-5 million per month - still not too bad.WebStar feels that 3.0.1 may have a memory leak (their phrase) and are preparing a patch. Since in the Plug-in the memory is assigned in WebStar, this may have had an impact. In the ACGI it is assigned to the ACGI. My sense is that our performance issues could have been improved by the ACGI version, since the memory would have resided in WebCAt, but we cannot test the kind of load conditions we experienced.I would like to hear from anyone who has successfully dealt with very extreme loads with the MacOS (Our config - G3 300, lots of RAM, 8.1, WebCat 2.1.3, WebStar 3.0.1) and WebCatalog.Off line comments are welcome.Larry Hewitt Hewitt Consulting larryh@hewittco.com >>I have heard some concerns that the Webcatalog WebStar plug-in hogs the >>CPU whilst it's doing a search and locks out any other programs running >>on the server. > >I've never heard of this nor have I seen it.
