Date Search Problem
This WebDNA talk-list message is from 1999
It keeps the original formatting.

texte = Hi all, I've just been handed a database from a client that has been used in aperl solution until now. It's a listing of show dates for Las Vegasshows. The fields are:Show_Performer, Venue, Show_Days, Category. Now,the thing that is stumping me is how to formulate a search on theShow_Days field using the data formatting that is being used. In Vegas, shows are run for one or more days in a row, sometimes with a blackday or days at some point in the week. Black days are days that theshow doesn't play. So the way their data is formatted in the Show_Daysfield goes like this: If a show runs on Sunday and Monday of the weekstarting Jan 29th, the data looks like this 01-29-99:1100000 withoutthe quotes. If a show starts on April 8 and runs consecutively for 21days, the data looks like this 04-08-99:111111111111111111111. If theshow runs continuously with black days on Wednesday and Thursday, thedata looks like this C:1110011. This is obviously something that was set up by the original perlprogrammer and I'm guessing perl is suited to do parsing of stringvariables in a way that makes this workable. But I don't see how tomake it happen in WebDNA. I need to have the search page allowsearching for shows between a start date and an end date and not returndark days. Does this look like something that can be done in WebDNAusing their data? I can request that the database structure be revisedif anyone can suggest a better way to format for these parameters (startdate, end date, one or more dark days). Any and all help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Mike Davis
