Politically, it doesn't matter what the costs, long term or short - Washington State government has purchase contracts in place that permit agencies to buy MS without any cost comparisons, or even an RFP.We host one agency website, and they had a department that wanted to do their own site. We bid on it, but lost out. They chose instead to:1.- purchase their own server, as presceribed by their consultant, at $25K 2.- go with SQL Server and NT 3.- long term maintenance agreement 4.- long term consulting costsThe total package was in the $75K range. Their web site it so insignificant, that we could have included it with the default agency server, running webcat as the databse, with production costs under $5K, and maintenance costs at $100.mo, and still had time to nap most of the day.By the way, this was 6 months ago, and the site is still not up.But this is Washington. That is OK.======================================================================== Hewitt Consulting...
