texte = Hi to everybody on this list!I am sorry if I might be asking something that was already asked in the meantime, but I have been absent from this list for some time ;-)I was asking myself if anybody here has made some tests to share with WebCatalog on Linux, and especially if anybody made some experience in connecting to ODBC databases (the [SQL] contest). I can't find anything about it on the smithmicro site, that is, anything but a very generic message about it. I have been writing webdna code for some time on Mac OS/WebStar, and loved webdna so far. For some time now I've also been working with PHP3, MySQL, and Oracle PL/SQL. Each language, as you all know, has its advantages and drawbacks. PHP3 has a quite vast feature set. For some things it is more flexible than WebDNA (and a 'little bit' cheaper), but it's not so nice for simple things. PL/SQL Has cursors and usual programming language advantages, which are hypergreat, but is really nasty to integrate with HTML. SQL (especially ORACLE SQL) is GREAT, and I would't want to think back to the 'plain, pseudo-relational' structure of WebDNA-Databases (at least not for 'real' ecommerce). Still, WebDNA is somehow 'state of the art' for what concerns integrating it into HTML code. Finally: I am going to set up my 'own' Linux Box(es) soon, and I'd like to use and re-use all possible work, in all languages... but MAINLY I'd like to use the best of databases (Oracle) and the best of hypertext preprocessors (php3 and WebCatalog). That would mean, on the webcatalog side, that I'd have to use the [SQL] context to query the database.Does anybody (outside or inside smithmicro) have experience (and maybe some code examples!!!) with the [SQL][/SQL] context? How about PL/SQL, or calling packages out of an ORACLE DB? How about commits, rollbacks, etc? How fast is ODBC on Linux?... Please Help! I'd like to have WebCatalog in my 'arsenal'... but it has to be a justifiable expense!:-) Lorenzo Perone Independent Web Developer (as You might have guessed!) perone@netplace.de ------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
