texte = Yesterday morning, for some reason, WebCatalog stopped working properly.I decided to reinstall it with the latest version from the ftp server atSMS.One thing that I forgot is that this Installer just overwrites the olderprefs from Webcatalog, plus 4 important database files (including users).Actually, I only use NT as a Web server. I do everything else on a Mac,where the prefs are usually never overwritten by the reinstallation of asoftware. What happens next is a nasty little bug that the tech support at SMS failedto fix at all.All I needed, after installing WebCatalog, was to access the administrativetemplate in order to restore the prefs. Most important of all problems wasthe fact that none of our scripts have the tag ontop. It is just a choice. If I did not want people to come and just see someuninterpreted WebDNA instead of a web page, I had to find a solution reallyquickly. It should have taken me about 15 minutes to reconfigure WebCatalog properlyand test the new configuration.Problem was that the default admin password (admin/admin) did not work, forsome reason totally unexplained. The users.db had the proper entry and therewas no setting in NT that would make it challenge WebCatalog for the rightson this page. Also, there was no domain box with MSIE5.This problem happened before. I myself had it and the only way I couldcorrect it was to just import the prefs and the users.db from anotherserver.I actually only had ONE successful installation of WebCatalog. Since then, and on different machines, this nasty bug has prevented me from using thedefault admin password. And since then, I had to import the files from theother WebCatalog for the new installation to work. But yesterday, I had no other machine with WebCatalog installed. What I do not understand is why SMS has never investigated this bug andcorrected it. Why they never came with a clear solution. And why I was leftfor several hours with no help until I had somebody else send me a users.dbover the internet, that I could use in order to access the administrativetemplate in WebCatalog. For 5 hours, all our web sites were down. All because of a little bug thatwe have signaled many times to PCS then to SMS and that they nevercorrected, or found a solution for.I have nothing against the people who do tech support at SMS. I myself didthat job and know all the problems specific to this job (the angrycustomers, the stress, plus the turn-over). I understand pretty well thatthe techie I talked to was unable to find a solution to my problem, becausenone of his tools (manuals, FAQs, knowledge base) seemed to talk about thisbug. What I do not understand is that this bug has never been properlyinvestigated and corrected, or at least documented. If any of you had the same problem, please tell.-------------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list
