texte = Yesterday morning, for some reason, WebCatalog stopped working properly.I decided to reinstall it with the latest version from the ftp server at SMS.One thing that I forgot is that this Installer just overwrites the older prefs from Webcatalog, plus 4 important database files (including users).Actually, I only use NT as a Web server. I do everything else on a Mac, where the prefs are usually never overwritten by the reinstallation of a software.What happens next is a nasty little bug that the tech support at SMS failed to fix at all.All I needed, after installing WebCatalog, was to access the administrative template in order to restore the prefs. Most important of all problems was the fact that none of our scripts have the tag on top. It is just a choice. If I did not want people to come and just see some uninterpreted WebDNA instead of a web page, I had to find a solution really quickly.It should have taken me about 15 minutes to reconfigure WebCatalog properly and test the new configuration.Problem was that the default admin password (admin/admin) did not work, for some reason totally unexplained. The users.db had the proper entry and there was no setting in NT that would make it challenge WebCatalog for the rights on this page. Also, there was no domain box with MSIE5.This problem happened before. I myself had it and the only way I could correct it was to just import the prefs and the users.db from another server.I actually only had ONE successful installation of WebCatalog. Since then, and on different machines, this nasty bug has prevented me from using the default admin password. And since then, I had to import the files from the other WebCatalog for the new installation to work.But yesterday, I had no other machine with WebCatalog installed.What I do not understand is why SMS has never investigated this bug and corrected it. Why they never came with a clear solution. And why I was left for several hours with no help until I had somebody else send me a users.db over the internet, that I could use in order to access the administrative template in WebCatalog.For 5 hours, all our web sites were down. All because of a little bug that we have signaled many times to PCS then to SMS and that they never corrected, or found a solution for.I have nothing against the people who do tech support at SMS. I myself did that job and know all the problems specific to this job (the angry customers, the stress, plus the turn-over).
