texte = Up to now we've put client's dbs in the same folder as their html. This was not a problem because only we had access to the disk space. Now one client wants to be able to update a page or two with his own site by editing the html page. These are not changes where we could even give him a database that changes the pages... No he want to change the pages himself in some html editing program. All fine and good expect he (and I) are concerned about the databases sitting in the same FTP space as his web pages. He is concerned about someone being able to hack into his site by learning the FTP username and password. He's less concerned about his site being hacked but he's concerned that anyone who gains FTP access to his web site will also have access to his dbs. [side note: He recently had a computer stolen. On that computer he had a number of static web sites that he developed built an configured in DreamWeaver. That means that anyone who gets possession of that computer could have accesses his FTP space with the click of a button. Yes we are aware that when a computer is stolen, the FTP passwords should be changed.]So the solution I thought of would be to move all the databases into the WebCat Globals folder where no one -- except me -- would have FTP access. The changes to the WebDNA are trivial as there are maybe only 15 templates and two databases for this site.Does anyone see any downside to this? Will [search db=^some.db...] be any less efficient then [search db=some.db] ? If you did this for all your sites, would you put each site in it's own folder within the Globals folder? Like this: [search db=^clientname/some.db...] ? Are there any cross-platform issues I should know about? Thanks, ___Joe___ _________________________________________________ Joseph D'Andrea JoeDan@West21.com WEST21.com Internet services for the 21st Century http://www.west21.com/ _________________________________________________ ------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
