And does it have an effect?I did not say that, I said CommandSecurity. There is no such thingas a preference called commandpref ...Now that we have that straight, I can tell you that I never use thewebcat admin interface to change my webcat prefs. Instead I quitwebcat if it's running, then I edit the prefs manually, with a texteditor, in the WebCatalog Prefs file. That's why I always refer tothese preferences by their real names, instead of trying to describethem with terms used in the admin interface, which clearly nevergives you a clue as to the true names of some of these prefs.Aside to SM:It wouldn't hurt you guys to clearly label each preference BY NAME inyour admin interface -- so when we talk about these things we do*not* have to try to describe them using vague descriptions, insteadwe can simply look at the real names of these prefs as displayed inthe admin interface.Back to the problem here ...You're having a problem that no one else seems to be having, and it'son NT -- so if anything, I simply assumed that if you actually didwhat I suggested earlier, and if that didn't fix the problem, thenmaybe this is just one of those issue specific to NT or the serversoftware you're using, and in that case there's nothing more I canadd to the discussion. However, if you still have not checked your prefs file to be surethat the proper values are in there, and if you really want to see ifmy previous suggestion will work, this is what you should do:1- Quit webcatalog. In fact, shut down the entire NT box it's runningon, then reboot it but do NOT launch webcatalog yet ...2- Open the WebCatalog Prefs file with a text editor, find theCommandsAllowed preference, and make sure FlushDatabases is NOT inthere. If it is, remove it.3- Find the CommandSecurity preference and make sure it is exactlyT -- without the quotes.4- Don't forget that this file you're working on is a standardtab-delimited database file that webcat NEEDS to have in the properformat, so don't go typing any stray carriage returns, tabs, oranything else by mistake when editing this file or you're bound toscrew up the format, then you'll have more problems than you startedwith.5- Once you've saved and closed the WebCatalog Prefs file, launchwebcatalog.6- If you're browsing from a different box, reboot that computer aswell. Then run your tests again to see if you still experience thesame problems. If you still have the same problem after doing all this, then maybeyou have a corrupted copy of webcat, which means you should replaceit with a fresh copy -- or else there's something unrelated towebcatalog going on here.I really doubt that this is a bug in the NT version of webcat, sinceno one else ever seems to complain about this, but maybe you justhappen to be the unlucky person who discovered something no one elsehas run into until now ...================================Kenneth Grome, WebDNA Consultant808-737-6499 http://webdna.net================================-------------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list
