(Nasdaq: SMSI), a developer and marketer of a wide range of software and service solutions for the Internet market, today announced an agreement with Buystream.com designed to help users of its WebCatalog eCommerce and web publishing platform increase online sales. The agreement gives WebCatalog customers easy access to Buystream Architect and Buystream Merchant, two web site monitoring and optimization services that respectively analyze the technical capabilities and buying behavior of visitors to a given web site. The captured data is translated into graphic reports that can assist developers in intelligently fine-tuning their sites in ways specifically aimed at increasing the percentage of visitors converted to purchasers. The agreement is part of a broader initiative to provide WebCatalog customers with a series of value-added tools to assist their eCommerce efforts. Our objective is to equip WebCatalog customers with a suite of tools that will help them leverage the capabilities of WebCatalog to create the a strong eCommerce offering, said Chris Lippincott, General Manager of the Internet Solutions Division of Smith Micro Software. The service tracks more than 100 variables such as visitors' screen resolution, color depth, bandwidth, language preference, page download time, page completion rates, and ability to handle multimedia and plug-ins. It then delivers intelligent recommendations for making design adjustments to ensure positive and effective site visits.Pre-qualified developers who have significant e-tailing business will be offered a 10-day free trial of Buystream Merchant, a companion solution that gathers detailed metrics correlating time of day, day of week, geographic location, spoken language, technology level and other factors with online purchasing. The resulting visit-to-buy ratios indicate the success of a given site in closing sales with low-bandwidth visitors, those whose first language isn't English, Sunday shoppers, lunchtime browsers, and so on. Built-in thresholds automatically alert clients to opportunities to increase revenues and to potential roadblocks in closing sales, such as excessive download times. We believe WebCatalog offers an impressive array of capabilities for web site builders in general and eCommerce enterprises in particular, and our ability to add intelligence to the web design process gives WebCatalog users a powerful new means of capitalizing on those capabilities, said Shannon Ryan, CEO of Buystream.com.
