It keeps the original formatting.
numero = 33978
interpreted = N
texte = If you have a single element of the search parameters that changes (for example ISBN), you can make it very short indeed. What I am doing is to add a section to the top of my main Index.tpl which looks for the URL form variable ISBN and does a redirect to the actual search page. So the link looks like this: http://www.rowmanlittlefield.com/?ISBN=0847697185and the redirect code looks like this (without linebreaks of course):[hideif [ISBN]=[raw][ISBN][/raw]][Redirect /Catalog/SingleBook.shtml?command=Search &db=../CATALOG.db&eqSKUdata=[ISBN]][/hideif]Then the page magically redirects. For an additional level of magic, I used the URL rewriting feature of my webserver (O'Reilly's WebSite) to change this: http://www.rowmanlittlefield.com/ISBN/0847697185to: http://www.rowmanlittlefield.com/?ISBN=0847697185which WebCatalog translates to:http://www.RowmanLittlefield.com/Catalog/SingleBook.shtml?command=Search &db=../CATALOG.db&eqSKUdata=0847697185Pretty slick, huh? As far as I can see, this bit of legerdamane will mean that search engines that normally choke on URL parameters will link these pages just fine.John Peacock Jeff Logan wrote: > > I am working on a new site and I am wondering how instead of showing > a url that is 200 plus charecters long I can shorten up the url. > > This is what I have know: > http://www.forkswa.com/members/search.tpl?command=search&neSKUdata=[bl > ank]&db=forksdata.txt&categorysumm=t&ascategorysort=1&max=50 > > How can I make it shorter? > > Jeff Logan >------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
