Our site distributes small web-based Intranets, so the is more dynamic code than static code. Also we have eliminated as many images, java scripts, and other resource consuming objects. Any help on one or all is greatly appreciated.Environment: Windows NT/2000 /IIS As much RAM as needed Multiple servers (2) forming a farm using the Networkload Balancing serviceNEEDS: Both machines, and more machines in the future, need to work together to process the workload during peak times, but in case one machine goes down I need the remaining machine(s) to pick up the load.(fault tolerance). The above question has been broken down into 3 seperate questions. I have talked to the talklist and SM, but still need more insight before I begin this project. It all boils down to this, What will it take to make this work? 1.---Question: Webcat seems to use internal databases flat files for its data store, and they must reside on the machine that uses them. Is this true?? Or can they be hosted on a seperate server?SM Answer: Q1:As long as the WebCatalog program can see the files on some kind of filesystem (on Mac, you could create aliases to files on another hard drive).According to Ken G this is not possible: Psuedo syntax example of attempting to access a remotely hosted db: [search db=OTHER SERVER/dbs/color.db&geskudata=0]Has anyone found a way to pull this off without SQL?2.---If it is, does webcat support some type of replication between machines? , or can those be shared by another webcat machine? SM Answer: Q2:It is up to you to copy files between servers. If your data is relatively constant, you can copy files and then instruct WebCatalog to flush databases to force it to reload from disk.3.Lastly, what kind of fault tolerence Webcat recommends or have other users have come up with?SM Answer: Q3:This is best asked on the talk list. Each individual customer has various criteria, and the words fault tolerance have way too many vague meanings. For instance, some products depend on an array of servers accessing a single SQL server, and consider this 'fault-tolerant', yet if the single SQL server goes down, then the entire suite of servers goes down. ------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
