texte = Actually, the name of the virus is Nimda. For those of you who don't see the joke, that's Admin spelled backwards. This virus was completely preventable! Every trick it exploits has been separately patched by Microsoft at some point in the past. Patches for Windows Nt/2000, Patches for IE 5x and above, patches for ME email products. Now, it's the ADMIN's responsibility to keep up to date on all of these patches and make sure they are applied! (otherwise you would have to expect better software from the company you are supporting, but, whoops- uh, that's a different tangent...)Can you now wait for Norton to release a SINGLE patch to do your job for you? Don't know if they will. Viruses typically work by altering (read changing and deleting files) on the host machine. No, instead, all of the previously known patches must be applied to these systems. Even then, your system probably won't be the same as it was before. This episode is one case when an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure (even if in MS's case, it's 7/8 pound of prevention)So, back to your jobs, hopefully in the next few days the entire internet should have FINALLY applied all of the know patches MS has released to date.Brian B.
