I would recommend a G4 with at least 512MB RAM.If your primary concern is cost, go with Linux. I think you'll probably want know a little something about linux/unix before taking this route.If your primary concern is ease-of-use, go with OS X. It's extremely stable. In nearly a year of constant use, I haven't crashed either of my OS X boxes. Plus, you could grab an Apple Xserve blade server with OS X Jaguar pre-installed and be up-and-running in no time!
