I bought two Cobalt RaQ3's for $500 each (although that limits the update capacity because Sun is not very actively supporting them). Since my boxes are strictly e-mail relay and DNS, they are way overpowered for that purpose.> > Last but not least, I am used to running DNS, MAIL, and WEB> all on the same box with my Mac machine. Does linux robustly> handle all of these services simoltaneously on one machine?Linux is very capable to handle all of this and more (arguably _much_ better than a Mac, in fact). I can recommend qmail for the MTA and daemontools/djbdns for DNS services for highest performance (if you don't mind some serious learning curve). Of course, Apache goes without saying for web services; don't go with 2.0 yet unless you are a glutton for punishment. You didn't mention which Linux distribution you are considering (there are more than just RedHat ;~). I like Mandrake's distro, but I have also heard lots of good things about SUSE. RedHat tries to load too many extraneous (read insecure) services by default. I can do a basic Mandrake install in less than an hour soup to nuts (including building/installing qmail and djbdns)!John-- John PeacockDirector of Information Research and TechnologyRowman & Littlefield Publishing Group4720 Boston WayLanham, MD 20706301-459-3366 x.5010fax 301-429-5747-------------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list
