Re: attn: smitmicro - cart limitation

It keeps the original formatting.

texte = I believe customizable cart header names would be very valuable--good-quality code is self-documenting, and with [Header37] (etc.) it's not really possible to write what I would call good-quality code. The other thing I wish for is that the header fields were not limited to 255 characters. I use them for customer notes (web site feedback, order notes, gift notes). It's not that I wish the customers to use more than 255 characters. But textarea does not inherently have a length limitation. So I have a little fancy JavaScript code that I wrote that limits the length to 255 and also counts the characters and shows them in a little text box. Some customers don't have JavaScript enabled, and really I'd rather not have this stuff there, if I could avoid it.I always write the cart file into tables with appropriately labeled fields at the conclusion of checkout. I don't find much about the cart format valuable, and I should go back and rewrite my carts to use custom tables instead from the beginning--but it's a bunch of work, and then debugging, so I hesitate to get into it. If I knew then what I know now, I would not have used the cart at all. The two things I do find useful and valuable about it are the unique ID number (which I could still use without the cart), and the credit card checksum validation (which I could still use without the cart).Velma--------------------------------------------------------------------------Velma KahnGlory Day Software Company200 Tanager Ln NW, Floyd, Virginia 24091, U.S.A.phone: 540-745-6469 * fax: 651-321-4884email: vkahn@glorydaysoftware.comwww.glorydaysoftware.com-------------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list
