I get that sometimes as well with the cookie= =20 login system that I'm using on my hobby site. The answer is to delete the= =20 cookie and then reset it. I don't know your specific setup, but you can either instruct beforehand=20 that if there's any errors logging in, to first log out and then try= =20 logging in again, or if there's a way that you can error-trap and then=20 redirect them to the log out page -or- you can delete the cookie before=20 setting it each time if that works ok for your site (aren't keeping=20 shopping cart info from previous sessions for example). But to test the theory, make a logout page for testing that will expire the= =20 cookie and then see if you can reproduce the problem.
