I have not used Sybase, but I have used Pervasive and I couldn't recommend it at all. Pervasive was originally part of Netware and was spun off to its own product line. At the time, it was an embedded database (i.e. it was designed to be compiled directly into the application itself), so it was clearly not client-server. I don't know if they have changed that in the 5 years or so since I used it (with a financial package called Solomon). AFAIK, Pervasive is a shared access database (multiple processes can cooperatively access the database files) as opposed to a client-server (server process mediates access for multiple client processes). As far as what the marketing literature for PracticeWorks states, those are indeed the most common commercial client-server databases (they are excluding MySQL and PostgreSQL because they are not "commercial" but not because they are not client-server, which they both are). As I said, I have not used Sybase, but you are not going to be able to easily integrate it with WebDNA, since you are going to be limited to ODBC connections (only MySQL is supported natively by WebDNA). You should be sure that the Sybase application has good ODBC support and that you have access to the schema. Don't expect the vender to be all that much help trying to insert data into their databases...
